What can I say about my Nanny Gladys.... She was a funny old girl, always had a ciggie in hand & swore like a trooper!!!! She was married to my Grandad Joe, they had six children; Tony-deceased, Stephen, Joey, Eileen, Barbara & my Mom-Christine who sadly passed away on 1st Jan 2008(please look at my Mom's tribute- Christine Memory, Redditch). Nan was always the centre of our family, she worked until retirement age. She was a character, Nan had over 26 grandchildren, as she couldn't buy for us all, she would fill her bag up with paper loo roll in public loo's so we could use as tracing paper!!!! She used to make us tiara's from the silver paper in ciggie boxes... we loved them. We always had a hand knitted cardigan each year for school....Nan was only 4'5 in height, but not one of us would dare cheek her, she was well respected & loved. When I think of her I smile... she was so funny. When the smoking ban came into force on the buses, she was told by a conducter to stop smoking.... she said "the day you buy my cig's is the day you can tell me where I can smoke um" She was very verbal. We miss her so much, it was the end of an era when she went, but never forgotten xxxxxxxx

Although we only met occasionally, the tribute Cheryl has written above is exactly how i remember Auntie Gladys. A character in her own right, and unique in every sense. My mother, and Gladys's sister is Dawn Cave, and our thoughts are with the family at this time. God bless you Auntie Gladys. R.I.P. xxx
